Historic homes in Gettysburg, PA can command a premium over the traditional Gettysburg home. Some homes will be recognized by the plaque on the front of the house, others designated by signs at the front of the property, yet others will feature a brief history. There are Civil War hospitals, recognized casualty sites, former battle grounds, and recognizable farms. Each type of home having something different to offer an owner of a Civil War Home.

It is important to distinguish between a Civil War Home and a historic home. Not all homes with plaques were standing during the war. Homes that were present during the war are commonly known as a “Witness House” or “Witness Property.”

Also something worth consideration is battlefield front property. It’s not a recognized term but it is a sought after commodity here in Gettysburg. Much like waterfront property around a lake or on the the ocean, battlefield front property has an increased value over other properties. The recent Park Service acquisition has provided a few opportunities to own battlefield front property at the same price of any Gettysburg home. The home owners already have their homes listed and raising the price at this point would be out of the question.
